This past year my husband and I had lost two chickens to a hawk that has been aggressively stalking our chickens!!!This thing came out out of the sky like a lightning bolt and attacked my satin frizzle named Naomi who I loved so much. (She was beautiful and she was a show chicken. I was going to enter her in the local fair this year.) After that I stopped free ranging and this hawk still would not leave us alone. It would stand on the coop tormenting my girls, it would stand on the roof of our house just waiting. It would fly above the house screaming at us. This thing meant business and it really did not have a fear of us at all.In July, a random stranger trespassed onto our property and tried to steal eggs from our coop. They opened the egg box, dropped a few eggs that were in there on the ground and took off leaving the egg box wide open. My beautiful splash silky Keoke ended up getting out of the coop through the open egg box and was attacked immediately by the hawk. (I have cameras everywhere)During this timeframe I tried everything from shiny things to fake owls and crows, you name it. Nothing worked.About a month ago we bought two Maltese puppies and the first couple days that we had them, when we would let them out to go to the bathroom, literally right outside my front door, the hawk had a new target and would swoop down to try and get the puppies. (yes they were on leashes) This was the final straw! I was not going to allow this majestic flying dinosaur to try and eat my puppies!I then ordered three of these nets as a last ditch effort as I was recommended it on a Facebook group. They were amazing! I have a fenced in medium sized backyard where the coop is. We literally netted our entire yard! Our neighbors must think we’re absolutely crazy.We zip tied the ends of the nets to the trees, house all the way to my back door. Then we bought another one and cut it to size and connected it to the edges of the first one so it was able to connect to the fencing. Literally nothing is getting into my backyard. (Including whoever the intruder was that tried to steal my eggs)It is super super durable! It was pretty easy to install and only took a couple hours to do the job but if you have a lot of pinecones and sticks on the ground, they do get stuck in the netting pretty easily but it is also pretty easy to remove them.The best part is ever since we put the net up, the hawk finally went away and has not been back! When leaves fall on it, we just use a leaf blower and blow them off the top of it.
